Butcher

2025, HD video, 1:10:35

A portrait of tenderness, belonging and diasporic inheritance that follows the life of Omar, a queer Cypriot butcher. Set in Brixton, South London, a place shaped by post-Windrush migration, police brutality and resistance, the film captures gestures that hold quiet meanings as he reflects on love, labour and survival in his family’s shop. Featuring Roadworks (1985) by Mona Hatoum, Butcher echoes political intimacy through a sculptural attention to space and the body. Leaning into collaboration and collectivity, the work becomes an archive of care and transformation, tracing how home can both anchor and unsettle.
